While old Winter Carnival posters might inflict some brief touch of nostalgia on the passersby in Collis, Dartmouth’s ... Winter Carnival had a “Shiver Me Timbers” pirate theme, and Dartmouth students this year embraced the challenge. Dozens took the polar bear swim in Occom Pond, others participated in ice carving and the “lifeboat” races, and still others watched an exhibition by the Dartmouth Figure Skating Club at Thompson Arena.Begun in 1911, Dartmouth's Winter Carnival celebrates the beauty of the winter season in the Upper Valley and the achievements of Dartmouth's many winter sports teams. Dartmouth will celebrate our 114th Winter Carnival from February 8-11, 2024 with the theme "WINTERSTELLAR: A Carnival in the Cosmos." .
